On Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox acquired left-handed reliever Jovani Morán from the Minnesota Twins in return for catcher and infielder Mickey Gasper, continuing their rebuilding of their pitching staff.
The 27-year-old Morán recorded a 4.15 ERA while pitching in 79 games as a reliever with the Twins between 2021 and 2023. He held opponents to a batting average of.208 during that time, while striking out 112 batters and walking 52.
He recuperated from Tommy John surgery and missed the entire previous season. Morán was originally taken in the seventh round of the 2015 MLB Draft.
In return, the Twins receive Gasper, 29, who made his MLB debut last season, appearing in 13 games for the Red Sox.
A switch-hitter, Gasper was selected by the New York Yankees in the 27th round of the 2018 draft before being picked up by Boston in the minor league portion of the 2023 Rule 5 draft.
Both the Red Sox and the Twins currently have 39 players on their 40-man rosters.
