Sunderland and West Ham Links Middlesbrough Player Seeks ‘January Exit’
The Middlesbrough winger has previously been linked with a move to Sunderland.
Isaiah Jones, a former Sunderland transfer target, could try to leave Middlesbrough during the January transfer window, according to sources.
The 25-year-old has dropped drastically down the Teesside pecking order in recent months, starting only one games since September. The winger began the current season as a regular in Michael Carrick’s side, starting Boro’s first six league games before falling out of favour, which has been aggravated by the impressive form of Liverpool loanee Ben Doak.
Within this environment, Football League World speculates that Jones would seek a new challenge elsewhere in the coming year, with the knowing that he would have no shortage of suitors if he left the Riverside.

To that end, the online site claims that Sunderland had an interest in the wide man last year, with Boro reportedly eager to cash in on their asset at some stage. Along with the Black Cats, Norwich City and Millwall, as well as Premier League clubs West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Bournemouth, were said to be interested.
However, an exit did not materialise, and Jones established himself as a crucial figure under Carrick in the months that followed, to the point where he signed a new three-year contract extension in April. According to current plans, that pact will keep him under contract until the summer of 2027.
Jones joined Boro from non-league side Tooting & Mitcham in 2019, and has since made 145 appearances, scoring 13 goals and assisting 19 more. He is also a senior Guyana international, having scored twice in his six matches.
In a recent press conference, Boro manager Carrick said of Doak’s emergence and Jones’ consequent absence from the starting XI: “He [Doak] is incredibly dynamic, and he has those moments in him. We’ll manage him and monitor his performance throughout the season. We also have Izzy there, which gives us some decent options down that side. But Ben is a dangerous player who offers something different than Izzy, despite being extremely similar in terms of team fit. We’ll need them both as the season progresses.
