Erling Haaland has scored goals and set records since joining Manchester City in June 2022. On Saturday, the striker continued to leave his stamp on history by scoring his team’s 50th league goal against Liverpool.
Haaland became the fastest player in Premier League history to reach fifty goals in just forty-eight games. It took Andrew Cole, a former player for Manchester United and Newcastle United, 65 games to break the previous record.
Host City led by a goal from Haaland in the 27th minute, which it only gave up in the 80th when Trent Alexander-Arnold equalized for Liverpool.
“We had a great performance, we played really well,” BBC Sport was told by City manager Pep Guardiola. “I am extremely proud of the team and have nothing to regret or complain about.”
During a Liverpool attack, Haaland broke free from Liverpool’s center backs and beat goalkeeper Allison Becker with a blistering shot into the bottom-right corner of the goal.
Neither of the two dominant teams of the era was playing at their peak, hence the game fell short of the high standards set by their prior meetings.
