After a thrilling penalty shootout, Fulham defeated Everton to go, for the first time in the club’s history, to the League Cup semi-finals.
After Everton defender Michael Keane scored an own goal in the 41st minute, Marco Silva’s team was up, but with eight minutes left, Beto came off the bench to give the home team an equalizer.
There was a lengthy penalty shootout that took place, and after Bobby Decordova-Reid missed his spot kick, it appeared as though Everton would advance to their first major semifinal since 2016. However, Amadou Onana blew the opportunity, and the shootout ended in sudden death.
With the score tied at six points apiece, Idrissa Gueye’s penalty kick against the crossbar allowed center back Tosin Adarabioyo to cap off an incredible victory for Fulham. The team will find out who they play against in the round of sixteen when the draw is made on Wednesday night.
This brought an end to Everton’s four-match winning run and is the fourth time in the last six seasons that they have exited the competition on penalties.
