Four-time NBA All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins has signed a contract to play for the Taiwan Beer Leopards, the team announced Monday.
Cousins, 33, will join the team in mid-January and will play in four of the Beer Leopards’ home games scheduled for Jan. 20-21 and Jan. 27-28.
Cousins last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season, appearing in 48 games for the Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets. The former University of Kentucky standout most recently played for the Guaynabo Mets of the Puerto Rican professional league earlier this year.
A 12-year NBA veteran, Cousins holds career averages of 19.6 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3 assists per game across 12 seasons. However, injuries marred the back-half of Cousins’ NBA career, including an ACL injury that forced him to miss the entire 2019-20 season. Prior to that, the two-time All-NBA honoree played in just 78 games from 2017-19 while with the New Orleans Pelicans and Golden State Warriors. Cousins has also played for the Sacramento Kings, which drafted him fifth overall in the 2010 NBA Draft, as well as the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers.
But Cousins isn’t the only former All-Star in NBA history to sign a contract with the Beer Leopards. Dwight Howard, 38, an eight-time NBA All-Star, was a player with the Beer Leopards in 2022–2023 and finished the season averaging 23.2 points, 16.5 rebounds, and 5 assists in 20 games.
